Well hello there, and welcome to my first monthly roundup! I had a great time working on the refresh and working towards my extended slot at The Blue Lamp, and want to use this space to reflect on everything I’ve done over the last month and set out my intentions for the next one.
September started off with the big refresh. I first decided to have an online presence during lock down, during which time my wife and I built a website, started a social media presence and made some recordings. When lock down ended and I went back to teaching, I found I didn’t have the time or the energy to keep it up. When we moved to Aberdeen, I started attending more folk sessions, and now I’ve started performing more, I decided I wanted to update my online presence to reflect my growth over the last few years.
One of the motivations for my refresh was my extended slot! A few times a year, an artist is invited to perform 2 twenty minute slots at an Aberdeen Folk club session in The Blue Lamp, one before the interval and one before the end of the night. I was asked by club president RD Wyness in July if I would consider doing an extended slot, and I was absolutely honoured, and delighted to accept. I wanted to make sure I performed a set that reflected me as a musician, with some of my favourite traditional folk and country songs, as well as some of my own material including a premiere of my new song Minnesota! The extended slot was a resounding success, and I’m grateful to everyone who came along to support me!
I don’t have any gigs booked for this month, but I am continuing to work on building my online space, uploading the video’s from my extended slot, and working on some new songs. I will also be posting a blog post over the next few weeks about my new song Minnesota, and the inspiration behind it so keep posted!
